Excellus BCBS award helps remove transportation barriers to care
July 15, 2026
Mount Hope Family Center (MHFC) has received a Health Equity Innovation Award from Excellus BlueCross BlueShield to help expand and strengthen transportation services for the low-income and under-resourced parents, youth, and children it serves through its mental health programs.
Transportation is a critical component of MHFC’s efforts to improve access to care and reduce barriers that can prevent families from receiving needed mental health services. Funding from the award will help support trauma-responsive care training for the three drivers who facilitate MHFC’s transportation services. By equipping drivers with specialized training, MHFC aims to create a safe, supportive, and compassionate experience for clients from the moment they begin their journey to care.
The award will also help with maintenance of one bus and two 10-passenger vans used to transport clients to and from appointments and programs.
The Health Equity Innovation Award reflects a shared commitment between Excellus BCBS and Mount Hope Family Center to address health disparities and improve access to essential services for vulnerable populations throughout the community.
