Showing up where it matters most
May 1, 2026
Every few months, Rochester native Lynn Wesley Burton steps into local college classrooms with a mission-driven message: when stories and information are shared with purpose, they can change lives. Drawing on her background in television news and corporate communications, Lynn brings real member experiences to life—showing how clear, compassionate communication helps individuals and families better understand and access care, resources, and support.
Making a difference – one story at a time
Lynn offers more than career guidance; she introduces students to the role communication plays in improving health, wellness, and access to care. Through her work at Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, she shares meaningful member stories that demonstrate how thoughtful storytelling builds trust, humanizes health care, and turns complex information into understanding.
From supporting new moms through prenatal and postpartum care to helping members navigate pharmacy benefits, Lynn’s work brings the organization’s mission and culture to life—proving that every role, including storytellers, can make a real impact on people and families, right here at home.
Building trust through meaningful conversations
When students see someone from a health plan show up in their classroom, engage authentically, and share real opportunities, trust grows. Relationships form. Confidence builds. Through open dialogue and lived experiences, students gain a clearer view of how communication connects care to impact—and how their own voices can be part of that work.
Everyday extraordinary in action
Improving health is a shared journey, and Lynn makes it relatable by telling the stories that matter most. By spotlighting real people and real outcomes, she reminds us that the work is about more than simply health insurance—it’s about changing lives through understanding, connection, and care.
Through her storytelling, everyday efforts become Everyday Extraordinary.
