Excellus BlueCross BlueShield received a perfect score of 100 percent on the 2018 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), a national benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices related to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) workplace equality, administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation.

Excellus BCBS joins the ranks of 609 major U.S. businesses which also earned top marks this year.

“We’re proud to be recognized for the fourth year in a row as one of the Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality,” said Joseph Searles, corporate director of diversity and workforce inclusion, Excellus BCBS. “Diversity and inclusion is an important part of our business and culture, and we value the background, experience, and creativity of all our employees.

“We’re proud of our cultural competence training programs,” Searles added, “and value our involvement with the greater LGBTQ community in upstate New York.”

The 2018 CEI rated 947 businesses in the report, which evaluates LGBTQ-related policies and practices including non-discrimination workplace protections, transgender-inclusive health care benefits, competency programs and public engagement with the LGBTQ community. Excellus BCBS’s efforts in satisfying all of the CEI’s criteria results in a 100 percent ranking and the designation as a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality.
